Other Guidelines for IEEE WG Meetings All IEEE-SA standards meetings shall be conducted in compliance with all applicable laws, including antitrust and competition laws. Don’t discuss the interpretation, validity, or essentiality of patents/patent claims. Don’t discuss specific license rates, terms, or conditions. Relative costs, including licensing costs of essential patent claims, of different technical approaches may be discussed in standards development meetings. Technical considerations remain primary focus Don’t discuss or engage in the fixing of product prices, allocation of customers, or division of sales markets. Don’t discuss the status or substance of ongoing or threatened litigation. Don’t be silent if inappropriate topics are discussed … do formally object. --------------------------------------------------------------- See IEEE-SA Standards Board Operations Manual, clause 5.3.10 and “Promoting Competition and Innovation: What You Need to Know about the IEEE Standards Association's Antitrust and Competition Policy” for more details.

August, 17 2016 doc.: IEEE 802.11-16/1093r0 AANI SC Background At the July 802 Plenary meeting in San Diego 802.11 passed a motion to form this standing committee [1] To address: the IMT-2020 external proposal (option B3) To support 802.1 address: “IEEE “5G” specification” (option A) To report to 802.11 on 802 and non-802 activity on the network interface 802.11 sent a LS (11-16/1101r10) to 3GPP RAN and SA (9/17) The LS was presented and discussed at the 3GPP RAN and SA The LS was forwarded to the 3GPP PCG (802 also sent an LS to PCG) The 802 EC sent an LS to 3GPP PCG asking for improved communication RAN and SA both stated there is work to be done, PCG recommended using LSs and Company contributions to progress the work. Activity related to “IEEE “5G” specification” (action A) 802.1CF OmniRAN Ad Hoc is creating an IC to progress “IEEE ‘5G’” Joseph Levy (InterDigital)

IEEE SA “5G” Web Page Input The 802 LMSC Chair is participating in the IEEE 5G initiative as the SA and Computer Society representative. In this roll he has taken on the task of leading the development of a Standards Roadmap. The roadmap will be available for review and comment in the future. To support the on going IEEE SA process of creating a IEEE “5G” Initiative web portal: http://5g.ieee.org/ In support of improving the content of this portal, the 802 LMSC Chair as requested that all WG and TAG Chairs generate a description of their 5G related work. In response to this request the Chair of 802.11 assembled a set of volunteers to create the content.
Draft Web Page Input 1/3 IEEE 802.11 (also known as Wi-Fi1) is a critical wireless technology in the current networked world, providing for wireless networking in homes, schools, campuses, airports, offices, businesses, stadiums, parks, shops, and everywhere people need access to the internet. In addition 802.11 provides cellular operators with wireless LAN off-load allowing them to provide for the high bandwidth data needs of their customers. Cable operators use Wireless LAN technology to extend the availability of their networks throughout their customer’s homes and neighborhoods. It is predicted that there will be 32 Billion 802.11 (Wi-Fi) devices by 20212, and that 80% of mobile traffic will be pass over 802.11 (Wi-Fi) in 20193. IEEE 802.11’s technical strength is that it robustly uses license-exempt worldwide spectrum, as demonstrated by its pervasive deployment across multiple applications and geographies, and over the last 20 years. 1: Wi-Fi is a trademark of the Wi-Fi Alliance, the trade organization that certifies products that incorporate IEEE 802.11 standards. 2: Wi-Fi Market Data – ABI Research, June 2016 3: Cisco Visual Networking Index: Global Mobile Data Traffic Forecast Update, 2015–2020, White Paper, CISCO, February 3, 2016
Draft Web Page Input 2/3 IEEE 802.11 will support Enhanced Mobile Broadband by continuing to provide data off-load and enhanced network integration with 3GPP networks via 3GPP integration technologies such as: LWA4, LWIP5, e-LWA6, NBIFOM7, and new technical capabilities that will better integrate 802.11 devices with new 3GPP technologies such as New Radio (NR) and the NextGen System. In addition, improved integration with 3GPP, 802.11 standards that are being newly deployed such as IEEE Std 802.11ac-2013 ( up to 7 Gbps in 5 GHz) and IEEE Std 802.11ad-2012 (7 Gbps in 60 GHz) will improve throughput and capabilities of wireless networks. The next generation technologies of P802.11ax will provide for even greater throughput and efficiency in dense user scenarios (in the 5 GHz bands, up to 10 Gbps) and P802.11ay will provide extremely high data rates (60 GHz band, 20 Gbps). 4: LWA (LTE-WLAN Aggregation) 5: LWIP (LTE-WLAN Radio Level Integration with IPsec Tunnel) 6: eLWA (enhanced LWA) 7: NBIFOM (IP Flow Mobility support for S2a and S2b Interfaces) – EPS (Enhanced Packet System)
Draft Web Page Input 3/3 IEEE 802.11 will support massive machine type communications via IEEE Std 802.11ah-2016 technology, marketed by the Wi-Fi Alliance as “HaLow”. IEEE Std 802.11ah-2016 devices operate in frequency bands below one gigahertz, offering longer range and lower power connectivity. This technology enables the connection of machine devices in a power-efficient way for many applications such as the Smart Home, the connected car, and digital healthcare; as well as connectivity of machine devices in the industrial, retail, agriculture, and Smart City environments. In addition, IEEE Std 802.11-2016 in the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands can provide network access to machines and related devices being deployed in areas that currently have an existing IEEE 802.11 access network such as: homes, schools, businesses, shops, airports, etc. This network access can be provided with no additional deployment cost or network development as these are existing networks. IEEE 802.11’s existing power save features for operation in other bands also support machine type communications for battery-powered devices, and work is progressing on a “wake up radio” mechanism to optimize this.
