Questions for Discussion What are some important birthdays for teenagers in the United States? Why are these particular birthdays important? How do we typically celebrate a birthday?

Quinceañera Quinceañera – 15th birthday party Quinceañera – can also refer to the girl who is turning 15 Acknowledges that a girl has reached maturity and is now an adult She is ready to assume more responsibility within the family Also reaffirms religious beliefs, good morals, and family values

The Night Before Girl is serenaded by a mariachi band in front of her house

Church Special mass for the “quinceañera” Girl will wear a very fancy dress that is white or pale pink Also carries a bouquet

The “Court” Several young women called “damas” Several young men called “chamberlains”

At the end of mass… Quinceañera places her bouquet on the church altar Family passes out commemorative favors
