Industrial Development in the US Posses the same resources as Britain. War of 1812 forces the US to develop its industries. Textiles is the first industry to develop. Britain tries to keep industrial secrets to itself. Britain's designs make their way to the US. Francis Cabott Lowell mechanizes every stage in cloth making.

Later Expansion of US Industry Northeast is industrializing. Rest of the country remains agricultural until the end of the Civil War. Technological boom leads to more growth. Railroads developed to transport goods to major cities. Railroads dominated by large companies. To generate money to entrepreneurs sold shares of stocks to the public. Corporation- business owned by stockholders who share in the profits but are not personally responsible for debts.
Industrialization Reaches Continental Europe The rest of Europe wanted to follow Britain’s lead. Wars, and unrest delayed Industrial growth. Britain was decades ahead of the rest of Europe. Belgium is the first county in Europe to Industrialize. Machinery, steam engines, railroads introduced. British workers come to Belgium and some form their own factories.
Germany Industrializes Germany was politically divided. Industrialization begins in the Iron rich Ruhr Valley. Import British machines and engineers. Manufacturers send their children to England to learn industrial management. Builds railroads to connect its cities. Becomes an economic power. Economic strength turns into military power. By the end of the 1800’s Germany is a industrial and Military Giant (one of the causes of WWI)
Expansion throughout Europe Industrialization occurred in regions rather than entire countries. Some countries had little industrialization. Social structures and geography held some countries back.
Worldwide impact of Industrialization Industrial Revolution leads to competition between industrial countries and poverty in less developed countries. Industrialized countries exploit overseas colonies for resources and markets. (Imperialism) Over time, standards of living rise in the industrial nations.
