Salvatore Danzeca - RadMon Scope of the RadMon Measure the Total Ionizing Dose , the Displacement Damage and the High Energy Hadron Fluence in order to: Monitor the Radiation Level in the LHC tunnel Design and install new equipment Anticipate the electronics degradation Investigate the cause of failures Simulation benchmarking EFFECTS SEE DD TID Memory PIN Diode RadFet 03/05/2016 Salvatore Danzeca - RadMon

Salvatore Danzeca - RadMon RADMON V5 Specifications It is a fully commercial system It is radiation tolerant up to 80 Gy It is possible to have a Deported Unit to increase the range of measurements It is able to communicate with an industrial bus present in the LHC (WorldFIP) It has to be capable of monitoring the three axes of the radiation effects (SEE,TID and DD). Characteristics SRAM as HEH fluence monitor SRAM as Thermal neutron monitor RadFETs as TID sensor PIN Diode as DD 03/05/2016 Salvatore Danzeca - RadMon

Salvatore Danzeca - RadMon RadMon V5 RadMon V5 are installed in all the LHC All the RadMons can be found in TIMBER searching SIMA.* Naming convention for the LHC: Cell Direction Direction Agent SIMA.12R2.2RM08S Point in the LHC Tunnel areas or experimental areas (E) 03/05/2016 Salvatore Danzeca - RadMon

RadMon locations in DS/ARC DS/ARC (from cell 7 to 20) RadMon are placed below the interconnect between the last MB/MQ of a given cell Equipment (usually) below MB/MQ! cell i cell i+1 Tunnel equipment (QPS, CRYO, BLM or EPC) MB MB MQ MB cell i+1 cell i MB MB MB MQ MB The exact location of the RadMons in the LHC can be found on the GIS portal 03/05/2016 Salvatore Danzeca - RadMon

BATMON V5 and RadFet in CC BatMons Based on the RadMon V5 Battery powered RadMons Useful for on-the-fly measurements for certain locations The battery can last around 3 months Can be read only during the installation and technical stops (NO online measurements) RadFets in CC Measure the dose in passive Can be place in very harsh environment Calibration up to 4KGy (during this year we plan to have a calibration up to 10-20 KGy) RadFet 03/05/2016 Salvatore Danzeca - RadMon
