VCE’s Strategies to Reach LEP Audiences LEP Plan

Educate and Inform Our Staff

Unit Survey of LEP Contacts A significant number of units are experiencing contact with LEP persons (43% of units that participated in the survey). FCS agents followed by ANR agents have the greatest needs. Publications in Spanish are in the greatest demand. Actions: Associate Directors reviewed and selected pubs for translation if not existing elsewhere Non-existing publications in Spanish prioritized and scheduled for translation and printing each year. Created a compilation of pubs in Spanish posted on the intranet

Remote Language Interpretation Service for Walk-in Clients Telephone-based interpreter for over 200 languages Piggybacking another state contract Use of “I Speak Cards” to ID language Limited to walk-in clients conducting Extension business No translation at this point Funded from state-level funds
