Reading Strategically Using specific technics for understanding studying Learning

Unsuccessful Readers Lack awareness of how they think and learn No strategies Incomplete or inaccurate visualization Just decode words to the end of an assignment

Aware but limited success readers Know when they have lost the meaning or when they are confused, but lack the skills or motivation to correct the problems

Better readers Use thinking and comprehension strategies Monitor and repair meaning when it is disrupted.

Best readers Choose different strategies to reflect different goals and purposes Connect the new information to neural networks to broaden all knowledge Use the new information at increasingly higher levels of critical thinking

3 Stages of reading

Stage 1: Preview What is the topic of the material? What do I already know? What is my purpose for reading? How is the material organized? What will be my plan of attack?
