Key Questions About Formative Assessment What are formative assessments? Why do we use formative assessments? (Rationale) When do we use formative assessments?

Why do we use formative assessments? Teachers who regularly utilize formative assessments are better able to: determine what standards students already know and to what degree (purposeful) Decide what minor modifications/major changes in instruction they need to make so all students can succeed Create appropriate lessons &activities for groups or individual students (differentiate instruction) Inform students about progress in order for them to set goals for improvement Common Formative Assessments by Larry Ainsworth & Donald B.
