Investigate and practice weighing and estimating skills using breakfast objects. Use breakfast items to compare amounts and totals. Use our breakfast morning to formulate data to discuss. Which breakfast was the most popular? Knowledge of the World Use magnifiers to look closely at ‘food items’. Expressive Arts and Design Use food items to make prints. • Investigate colour mixing using magical colours. • Use modelling material to create your own food. • Make chocolate paintings using melted chocolate on clear plastic sheeting. Communication and Language Investigate foods by smelling, touching and tasting. Use words to describe shape, size, texture, smell, taste and colour of different food. Take photographs of our breakfast morning, to sequence and discuss. Generate questions to explore as a point of interest. Discuss Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Talk about breakfast. What do people have for breakfast? What do people eat for breakfast in other countries? Talk about why we need food. Sort them into categories. What makes us healthy? Physical Development Consistently form letters correctly. Uses a pencil and holds it effectively to form recognisable letters, most of which are correctly formed. Through dance and games, experiment with different ways of moving, negotiating space successfully PSED Explains own knowledge and understanding, and asks appropriate questions of others. English – Reading Become immersed in books, talking about the story and making predictions. Listen to parts of Charlie and the chocolate factory. In guided reading, can segment the sounds in simple words and blend them together and knows which letters represent some of them. Begin to know HF words by sight. English – Writing Write captions and sentences to support pictures from our breakfast morning Use our phonic knowledge to create lists of food. Create their own food land with an adult and write or re-tell somebody else about it. Match initial letter sounds to food items using phonic skills. Write a list of ingredients for a fantasy chocolate bar. Write or tell someone instructions of how to brush your teeth.
