Focus: To identify the feeling of depression and treatment. Goal: To understand how treatment for depression can be good. Standard: NHES#2- Safe and healthy environment Warm-up: What is depression? Explain. Name two or three signs and symptoms of depression. Create your own critical thinking question.

Notes: Depression is difficult both for people who are depressed and for people who care about them. 2. Unfortunately, many people who experienced depression do not get the professional help they need.

*Treatment* Individual, group and/or family therapy may be used, as well as specific medication. Many community and national agencies provide information and resources for people who are affected by mental illness. Agencies can be located in telephone books, through health care professionals, and on the internet.

Group Activity Writing a Tanka: Japanese poetry about feelings 5 lines with a total of 31 syllables 5 syllables in the first line 7 syllables in the second line 5 syllables in the third line 7 syllables in the fourth and fifth lines. A Tanka does NOT rhyme!!! Example: "Pretty colored trees That are orange, red and yellow In the Autumn air An old barn by the water With a white fence around it."
