Proctoring the AP test 2016-17

Important Information For All Proctors Before the testing day become familiar with the room, the test administrator’s schedule, and the instructions for the test you will administer. It’s important that you be informed about what students are permitted to do and what they are not permitted to do or bring to the test. Make sure you read the general instructions of the AP test besides the specific AP test instructions and be familiar with the test parts. No electronic devices of any kind are permitted to be on the student’s person, desk, or within arm’s reach.

What Proctors Do In Testing Rooms Check to see if the students are working in the correct session of the test, if they are not, report it to the test administrator in the room. Circulate quietly among students. Serve as an “extra set of eyes” in the room to assist the other test administrator helping you. Check to see if students have only the items needed on their desk to complete their test and check that they are bubbling/placing AP number labels where needed. Direct any and all issues you may observe to the test coordinator.

What Proctors Do In Testing Rooms… Familiarize yourself with the relevant administration and exam security procedures in the 2016-17 AP Coordinator’s Manual. Read all of the general and appropriate subject-specific exam administration instructions in the 2016-17 AP Exam Instructions book to understand the flow of the administration. Admit and assign students into the testing room Get cell phones from students and place in ziploc bags for Maribel. Check that students have all the testing materials needed for that specific test. (AP booklet, pencil, test)

During the exam administration: Bring all necessary materials to the exam room. Ensure that the proper seating distance is maintained between students. Distribute testing materials to each student individually following alternating distribution patterns as needed. Assist students with filling out their identification information on answer sheets. Supervise the testing room for the entire exam administration. Supply pens, pencils, calculators (when appropriate), and extra paper (as necessary). Walk around the room to ensure students are working on the correct exam section and are not using any unauthorized aids. Guard against attempts at cheating. Keep the room supervised at all times. Complete a seating chart. A sample seating chart can be found on pages 127–128.

After the exam administration: Collect and account for all exam materials before dismissal. Ensure that students have properly identified their exam materials (with AP number labels, etc.). Dismiss students, making sure they do not take any exam materials from the room. Return the seating chart to the AP coordinator. Return all* exam materials to secure storage. For world language exams, ensure that student audio responses have been properly saved in MP3 format (one file for each student) and named with the student AP number.

What Proctors May Not Do In Testing Rooms A proctor may not serve in a room if a family member is participating in the testing in that room If you suspect there may be a problem, report it to the test coordinator immediately. Your cell phones must be on “silent” or turned off during testing please it’s better not to use it during testing at all as students may see you and can call college board about it. During testing, do not speak to any students…remember, you are “an extra set of eyes in the room”.

Proctoring is an important responsibility and proctors are very valuable in our testing process. Your help is greatly appreciated. If you can serve as a sub for another proctor teacher if there is an emergency, please let Maribel know.
