Presentation transcript:

Patty Smith Hill Born- March 26, 1868. Died- May 26, 1946. Introduced progressive philosophy to Kindergarten teaching. Stressing creativity. Reformation of Friedrich Frobel.

Contributions to Education! Developed the large “Patty Hill Blocks.” In 1924 Helped the extension of Nursery Schools. The National Association for Nursery Education was organized with her help in 1925. She was president of the International Kindergarten Union in 1908. She wrote “A conduct Curriculum for the Kindergarten and First Grade”, in 1923. And Co-wrote a book entitled “Song Stories for the Kindergarten” in 1893. A song featured in the book called “Good Morning to All” provided the melody for “Happy Birthday.”

Patty Hill’s Kindergarten Vision: 1. The most essential purpose is “the minister of the nature and needs of children from the ages of 4 to 6 years old”. 2. Kindergarten teachers have two responsibilities and they are to see the connection of their work to the work of the first grade curriculum and lay the foundation that the students need “without sacrificing the right of the kindergarten child to free, full development on their own”. 3. The last function is to connect the kindergarten to their home, so there is a smaller distance between the two, and support the learning that happen in the home and in the classroom.
