35mm slide scanning in the HoA Visual Resources Centre How to use the Nikon scanner
First make sure that the scanner USB cable is connected to the back of the Mac Switch on the Mac (button on rear of screen, bottom left-hand side) Log on to ‘Scanner’, password is epson Switch on the scanner (button on front lower right)
Opening the scanner software Single click on the VueScan icon in the dock If the icon is not visible in the taskbar, click on Finder , then Applications, VueScan & double click
This is what you should see:
Loading your slides: Open the lid of the SF-210 Load slides with right side facing away from you and images in ‘landscape’orientation
Setting resolution and other tools You can set the scanning resolution on the Input tab You can ‘clean’ the slide surface at point of capture by selecting infrared clean on the Filter tab
Batch scanning Make sure that Batch scan all is selected on the Input tab Also on the Input tab, check the Scan from preview box
Saving your scans Select where you wish to save your scans on the Output tab – click on the @ next to Default folder & navigate to your folder
Saving your scans Also on the Output tab, tick the Auto file name box Select how you wish to save your scans – select jpeg or TIFF
You are ready to set the scanner running Click Preview Your first slide will feed into the mechanism and should start to scan The saved image will open (and save to your chosen location) The slides will continue to feed automatically until none remain
Continued… If a slide misfeeds, remove it, turn it through 180 degrees and replace it. Then go to the VueScan top menu and click on Scanner Eject The scanner will reset and continue scanning your slides
Saving your images When you have finished, you can save your images to a memory stick, CD or e-mail them to yourself. Close VueScan. The slide scanner will reset. Then turn off the scanner. If you require any assistance, please ask either Vicky or Christine. We are here to help!
