Why is Sir Ernest Shackleton a Great Briton? His ambition was to be the first man to trek Antarctica and reach the South Pole. Although he never met that ambition, he persevered against all odds and did not give up. On his second expedition to Antarctica, his ship got into trouble meaning Shackleton and his crew had to evacuate. Despite the horrific conditions they faced, Shackleton led all of his crew to safety. His name lives on as a symbol for courage, bravery and most of all, leadership.
