Revision Strategies Use a different color ink or lead to complete the following on this piece of writing: Read the essay aloud to its author. Underline all transition words and phrases. Make sure they are appropriate, or add three of them if they are not present. In the left margin, write the number of sentences in each paragraph. Circle the first word of each sentence. Put a square around three words or phrases that you can improve with more vivid vocabulary to make this paper more interesting.

Revision Strategies (continued) 6. What type of lead or “hook” did the writer use? How can you improve it? 7. Identify sentence fragments, run-ons, and comma splices. 8. Add or recommend three examples or details to make this paper more interesting? 9. Give it a title if it does not have one.

Write Final Draft Type in 14-point, Times New Roman, double spaced, 1- inch margins OR handwrite on notebook paper, one side only, in blue or black ink. Turn in rough draft with revisions with your final copy. You will be graded according to the following rubric:

Rubric Rough draft completed on time and in class for revision: 30 points Final draft written or typed according to instructions: 20 points Transitions (3): 15 points Hook: 10 points CUPS editing: 20 points Title: 5 points Bonus for creativity and elaboration: up to 10 points
