Retailers Looking for Improved Efficiencies Target tightens supply chain deadlines Vendors could face penalties for delays Home & Textiles Today Staff -- Home Textiles Today, May 4, 2016 Minneapolis – Looking to improve, update and accelerate its supply chain system for a sharper competitive edge, Target Corp. has put its vendors on notice. The discount chain issued a memo to more than 200 of its suppliers this week officially alerting them about a new policy, according to reports from several news agencies. Effective May 30, companies will be fined up to $10,000 for late delivery of product, inaccuracies in product and/or other infractions. This move comes on the heels of similar efforts by Walmart and Amazon – both of them key competitors of Target. Earlier, Target had announced plans to invest $5 billion-plus in its supply chain and technology systems and infrastructure from 2015-2017. More recently, Target alluded to the change last month during its vendor summit” April 19-20. Sources close to H&TT said the company gave a “general and preliminary” warning about fines for tardy and faulty deliveries in an effort to support stronger in-stocks and replenishment. But details, including a timeframe, were not included in the message.
