Maturity requires knowing God’s word Increased knowledge – 2 Peter 3:18 – But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Study scripture personally – Acts 17:11 – Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.  Learn from legitimate teachers – Ephesians 2:11-14 – So Christ himself gave… pastors and teachers,…. that the body of Christ may be built up… in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature…. 14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming.  Obey what you know – James 1:22 – Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 

Our desperate need for God’s word Psalm 19:9b-12a – The decrees of the Lord are firm, and all of them are righteous. They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb. By them your servant is warned; in keeping them there is great reward. But who can discern their own errors?
