This is Jeopardy Protein Synthesis To make this game… First think of five review categories and five questions for each category. Add the categories to the top of the table in slide 2. Place your questions according to the categories into the slides. For example…C1-200 is the question for Category 1 worth 200 points. C5-400 is the question for Category 5 worth 400 points. Place a final jeopardy question in the Final Jeopardy box. Test your slide show. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at lorinsomerlot@mac.com or lsomerlot@new-albany.k12.oh.us

Category No. 1 Category No. 2 Category No. 3 Category No. 4 No. 5 100 200 300 400 500 To play the game. Divide you class into teams. If you have bells or some other way of emulating ringing in your answers, knock yourself out! The contestant chooses a category and a point value. Click on their choice and you will advance to the associated slide. Click on the slide to reveal the answer. Once the contestant has stated the question click on the slide again to reveal the question. Click BACK to return to the Categories Slide. The first contestant from team 1 goes first then I alternate to the next team. Final Jeopardy

C1-100-The answer is… The nitrogen base adenine always bonds with ____________ in DNA Thymine Back

C1-200-The answer is… DNA is copied during a process called transcription Back

C1-300-The answer is… The percentage of pyrimide bases is equal to the percentage of purine bases Back

C1-400-The answer is… What are the 3 parts of a DNA nucleotide? Deoxyribose, phosphate, nitrogen base (A, T, G, C) Back

C1-500-The answer is… During transcription, a DNA strand with the following code will create a new DNA strand with what code? CTAGGT GATCCA Back

C2-100-The answer is… When DNA is transcribed to mRNA, adenine pairs with? Uracil Back

C2-200-The answer is… RNA contains the sugar…. ribose Back

C2-300-The answer is… How many types of RNA are there? 3 Back

C2-400-The answer is… What molecule is formed during transcription? mRNA Back

C2-500-The answer is… How many codons are needed to specify 3 amino acids? 3 Back

C3-100-The answer is… How many different codons are possible? How many amino acids do these codons specify? 64 20 Back

C3-200-The answer is… Why must DNA be transcribed into mRNA? DNA is too big to leave the nucleus Back

C3-300-The answer is… During translation, the type of amino acid depends upon…. The mRNA codon and the tRNA anticodon Back

C3-400-The answer is… Genes contain the instructions for assembling….. proteins Back

C3-500-The answer is… Which type of RNA functions as the blueprint of the genetic code? mRNA Back

C4-100-The answer is… This molecule goes and gets the amino acid from the cytosol tRNA Back

C4-200-The answer is… The DNA strand reads, ACCGAGGTT – what will the mRNA strand read? UGGCUCCAA Back

C4-300-The answer is… If a nucleic acid contains Uracil, it must be…. RNA Back

C4-400-The answer is… The nitrogenous bases in DNA are held together by Hydrogen bonds Back

C4-500-The answer is… A codon consists of _____ nucleotides. 3 Back

C5-100-The answer is… The Watson and Crick model of DNA is a ________________ in which 2 strands are wound around each other. Double helix Back

C5-200-The answer is… Name the purines and pyrimidines in DNA. Pyrimidines: Cytosine & Thymine Purines: Adenine & Guanine Back

C5-300-The answer is… What causes translation to stop? Stop codon Back

C5-400-The answer is… This is where translation occurs ribosome Back

C6-500-The answer is… These link together amino acids in a protein Peptide bonds Back

Final Jeopardy Take the following DNA strand and follow it from transcription and translation to the formation of the protein (you’ll have to use your mRNA chart). GAGTTCACGAAG mRNA: CUCAAGUGCUUC – created from DNA in the nucleus – then leaves nucleus and binds to ribosome tRNA: GAG UUC ACG AAG – anticodons created from mRNA molecule – tRNA goes and picks up matching amino acids Amino acid sequence: Glu – Phen – Thr – Lys - amino acids joined together by peptide bonds. tRNA is then released back into the cytosol to be used again. Back End Game
