Shannon Archer Early Entry Coordinator UniAdvice sarcher@uow.edu.au Early Entry @ UOW in 2011 Shannon Archer Early Entry Coordinator UniAdvice sarcher@uow.edu.au

Early Entry @ UOW The Early Entry program is unique to UOW It is a program that rewards high achieving and hard working students who have the ability to succeed at UOW It is a program that offers students options, it does not lock them into a degree in September

Early Entry @ UOW The number and the quality of Early Entry applications has increased each year as awareness of the program grows There are NO QUOTAS in regards to Early Entry Offers. The number of offers made is determined solely on the calibre of the applicants applying

Early Entry @ UOW 2010 Early Entry Applications: 2815 applications submitted for consideration (40% increase on 2009) 3144 applications started in the Early Entry system (89.5% completion rate) 30 (1%) submitted applicants listed their citizenship as being outside Australia

Early Entry @ UOW 2010 Early Entry Offers: 67.8% of Early Entry applicants who submitted their application received an offer 38.4% of applicants received a Guaranteed offer as their highest Early Entry Offer 29.4% of applicants received a Conditional offers as their Highest Early Entry Offer Students may have received multiple Early Entry offers 17.8% of applicants did not receive an Early Entry offer

What will students need to provide in their 2011 Early Entry Application? Applicants may be required to provide any or all of the following information. School certificate results or equivalent (end of year 10) for English, Maths and Science. End of year 11 exam results for all subjects undertaken. Mid Year 12 exams results for all subjects undertaken

How results need to be provided Exams results are compulsory if exams were held. An overall subject mark is only suitable if exams were not held If exams were not held an overall subject mark must be provided to allow assessment of students Marks provided need to be out of 100, 1 unit subjects should be converted to a mark out of 100 All results provided must be raw marks, not scaled results

What will students need to provide in their 2011 Early Entry Application? Explanation of why they would like to do the selected degree (is not asked for all degrees) CV Information – academic awards, extracurricular activities, school and sporting representation, additional training and employment history Trial HSC exam results for all subjects undertaken (provided after applications close)

Key Messages for Students Early Entry is not a “click and flick’ program. Early Entry is a program for students who are serious about obtaining a place at University before the HSC begins We have tried to make the application as easy as we can, but for UOW to be able to assess applicants ability to succeed at UOW, we do require a significant amount of information .

Key Messages for Students Early Entry is an opportunity, make the most of it The application is comprehensive as required to assess suitability for UOW without using the ATAR Submit it early! We cannot accept late applications

Key Messages for Students Faculties are looking for people who can succeed at University – that means being informed, responsible, motivated and able to organise yourself. Applicants should demonstrate these attributes throughout the entire Early Entry process

Early Entry Tips Read the application instructions and information fully before starting their application. Doing this will save time and confusion Be careful when entering application information, particularly email address, Board of Studies (HSC) number and personal details. Regularly check email accounts for interview requests, information and updates

Early Entry Tips Interviews Be available for interviews during the published dates. This may mean needing to re-schedule social and work commitments to attend an interview Respond to all interview requests (even if they are unable to attend)

Early Entry Tips Be properly prepared for interviews. Students must bring ‘Certified Copies’ of all results for EVERY interview attended. Faculties cannot make copies on the day and copies cannot be shared between faculties Failure to follow instructions and requests may affect the chances of receiving an EE offer

Early Entry Tips Attitude Faculties are looking for students who are motivated and will succeed in a University setting, students should be engaged and passionate about when trying to gain Early Entry

Early Entry Tips Dress at Interview: While we do not expect wear suits and ties, dress should be smart and modest. Board shorts, t-shirts and thongs are too casual. Likewise extremely short or revealing clothing (including strapless tops and dresses) should be avoided

Early Entry Tips Our Top Tip Early Entry is a great opportunity so students should approach it the way they would approach applying for a job. Be informed, be thorough, take it seriously and most of all be seen to be passionate.

Key Dates for Early Entry 2011 Applications Open – Friday 1 July 2011 Applications Close – Thursday 1 September 2011 Interviews will be held between Monday 26 and Friday 30 September 2011. This is the first week of the holidays before the HSC begins sarcher@uow.edu.au
