Defining the geometry

Kratos 3D Structural Tutorial In this tutorial we will solve a simple example using GiD and Kratos Geometry Input data and conditions PostProcess Singapore 2010

GiD-Kratos Singapore Workshop Pre and Post Processing ________________________________________________________________________________________________ GiD-Kratos Singapore Workshop Pre and Post Processing GiD Practice - Customization October 2010 _________________________________________________________________________________________________ GiD-KRATOS PROBLEM TYPE: AN EXAMPLE

Click the Files menu > Save as command to save the project. GiD-Kratos Singapore Workshops Pre and Post Processing Techniques _________________________________________________________________________________________________ Click the Files menu > Save as command to save the project. Click the Geometry menu > Create > Straight line command. In order to draw better, click the Utilities > Tools > Coordinates window command.

When the Coordinates window is displayed, type: GiD-Kratos Singapore Workshops Pre and Post Processing Techniques _________________________________________________________________________________________________ When the Coordinates window is displayed, type: 0.00 in the x, y and z edit box. Then click the Apply button. Do the same for: x = 0.20, y = 0.00, z = 0.00 x = 0.20, y = 2.00, z = 0.00 x = 0.00, y = 2.00, z = 0.00 x = 0.00, y = 0.00, z = 0.00. In this case, Create point procedure window is displayed. Click in the Joint button.

GiD-Kratos Singapore Workshops Pre and Post Processing Techniques _________________________________________________________________________________________________ Once you have drawn the rectangle, click the Geometry > NURBS > By contour command and select all lines. Press Esc. Click the Geometry > Edit > Divide > Surfaces > Num Divisions command and select the area object. Then Dialog window is displayed; click in the Usense button and type 2 in the Number of divisions box.

The area Object now looks like this. GiD-Kratos Singapore Workshops Pre and Post Processing Techniques _________________________________________________________________________________________________ The area Object now looks like this. Click the Utilities > Copy command, and Copy window is displayed. In the Entities edit box select Surfaces. In the Transformation edit box select Translation. In the Second Point Z edit box type 0,1. In the Do extrude edit box select volumes. In the Multiple copies edit box type 2. Click the Select button and select all area. Then press Esc. The volume object now looks like the right figure.

Problem Input Singapore 2010

GiD-Kratos Singapore Workshops Pre and Post Processing Techniques _________________________________________________________________________________________________ Click the Gid > Data > Problem type > Kratos command to load the Solver. A new list of icons at the top left of the screen appears. Click the Define the group properties icon to define the groups of the structure. An Entities group editor windows appears.

Click in Add New Group icon to define 3 groups: GiD-Kratos Singapore Workshops Pre and Post Processing Techniques _________________________________________________________________________________________________ Click in Add New Group icon to define 3 groups: The structure (Body) that will be Generic type. The Boundary Conditions (BC) that will be the fixed displacements or velocities. The Loads (Puntual, Pressure etc.) that will be Load type. (You can change the name of groups clicking in the right button-> rename command.)

GiD-Kratos Singapore Workshops Pre and Post Processing Techniques _________________________________________________________________________________________________ Select the Body Group, press the Assign button. Click in the Volume icon and select all volume in the model. Then press Scape. Select the Boundary, press the Assign button. Click in the Surface icon and select the lower surfaces of the model. Then press Scape. Finally Select the Load , press the Assign button. Click in the Point icon and select the higher-center point of the model. Then pres Scape.

GiD-Kratos Singapore Workshops Pre and Post Processing Techniques _________________________________________________________________________________________________ Click the Define the model properties icon to display the Project properties window. Select Material command and type all the materials parameters.

GiD-Kratos Singapore Workshops Pre and Post Processing Techniques _________________________________________________________________________________________________ In the Project properties >Model command complete the Project Information and type the path of Kratos. Select 3D in Spatial dimension and “Yes” in Structural Anayisis.

In Analysis type > Structural type command select Solids. GiD-Kratos Singapore Workshops Pre and Post Processing Techniques _________________________________________________________________________________________________ In Analysis type > Structural type command select Solids.

In Analysis type >Analysis Type select non linear. GiD-Kratos Singapore Workshops Pre and Post Processing Techniques _________________________________________________________________________________________________ In Analysis type >Analysis Type select non linear.

In Solution Strategy-Linear Solver type command select Direct. GiD-Kratos Singapore Workshops Pre and Post Processing Techniques _________________________________________________________________________________________________ In Solution Strategy-Linear Solver type command select Direct. In Solution Strategy- Direct Solver type command select Skyline LU.

GiD-Kratos Singapore Workshops Pre and Post Processing Techniques _________________________________________________________________________________________________ 21. In Solution In Solution Strategy > Dynamic command type 0.01 for Start time and Delta time. For End time type 5. 22. In Solution Strategy- Non-Linear command double click and press enter for defaults values.

GiD-Kratos Singapore Workshops Pre and Post Processing Techniques _________________________________________________________________________________________________ Select Properties command to assign the id Property, the Property type, the Material and the Material Model.

GiD-Kratos Singapore Workshops Pre and Post Processing Techniques _________________________________________________________________________________________________ In the Elements>Total Lagrangian command select Hexahedra as Element type and its corresponding Property and Group.

25. Select Loads command to assign the Body Force and a Puntual Load . GiD-Kratos Singapore Workshops Pre and Post Processing Techniques _________________________________________________________________________________________________ 25. Select Loads command to assign the Body Force and a Puntual Load . 26. Select Loads-Puntual command and type the value of the Puntual Load in the X and Z direction. Remember that its group is “Load” ; for this case is “Group3”.

28. Check if all values in Activation commnad is equal to 1. GiD-Kratos Singapore Workshops Pre and Post Processing Techniques _________________________________________________________________________________________________ Select Conditions>Displacements command to fix the displacements values of the nodes. 28. Check if all values in Activation commnad is equal to 1. 29. Check if all values in values commnad is equal to 0.
