One80Place Once we landed, we went straight to a shelter called One80Place There we learned about the organization and packed packages for those in the shelter
Shabbat On Shabbat, we participated in a activity involving a social action group/we learned about the history of the Civil Rights Movement in both the south and Charleston Later in the day/ we did a walking tour of the city/ after Shabbat/ we participated in a scavenger hunt and went to major landmarks in the city
Mother Emanuel Church On Sunday/ we sat in on a service at Mother Emanuel Church/ where Dylan Roof killed 9 church members It was crazy to see such happiness where such a horrible event happened/ the service was an amazing experience
Cemetery Cleaning After the service/ we went to a Jewish cemetery and cleaned gravestones It felt special b/c it was truly the highest form of mitzvot
Plantation After cleaning the cemetery/ we took a tour of a plantation and learned about slavery This was the first time I saw what a plantation looked like/ it felt weird knowing people used to live in those houses
Habitat For Humanity On the last day of the trip/ we did a habitat For Humanity project on John’s Island It was a great way to top off a special trip
