Bellringer, 8/15 (Use six word memoir powerpoint)

Tomorrow Tomorrow you will work on your memoirs in class and they will be due on Thursday.

Bellringer, 8/16 Pick up the following items from the table in back: 1) Folder and label 2) Yellow Pass request sheet Write your name on the label and place the label on the top right corner of your folder. Write your name on the top of the yellow sheet and place it inside your folder

Folders This is your English folder, to be kept in the classroom to hold your papers. Since I gave it to you, you cannot take it with you. You will leave it in the crate/bin marked for your class each day. When you come into the room each day, pick up your folder from the bin. All papers handed back to you will go in this folder, as well as your Pass Request Papers and other information handouts. At the end of each period, you place the folder back in the bin.

Pass Requests Put your name on the yellow Pass Request sheet inside your folder This paper is the only way you can ask for a pass to leave the class; you get 5 requests each quarter, so use them wisely. If you should need more, I must have a note from your parent requesting it

Charging Stations If you desire to charge your phones during my class, you must use only the Charging Station outlets provided for you. Remember, you leave your phone there at your own risk; I am not responsible for any property left there. If you are in need of a pencil or pen, you can use the “charge” system: Someone in the class can trade in their used one for a new one and you can have the used one

Fire Drill Instructions If we have a fire drill during this period, you are to stay together as a class and move quickly to the end of the faculty parking lot WE MUST STAY TOGETHER AS A CLASS ; I am required to take roll as soon as we get there To do so, you will follow my appointed leader and stay between that leader and me, as I will be the last one to exit the room. Rooms must stay unlocked during drills, so take your valuables with you. I will lead the way back to the room when the drill is over.

Work on Six Word Memoirs Note the rubric Begin working out your six words Write the explanation for the memoir Turn it over and make your six word memoir visual Keep it in your folder until tomorrow (or take it home to finish it. JUST MAKE SURE IT IS BACK HERE TOMORROW WHEN IT IS DUE TO BE TURNED IN FOR GRADING (NOTE: If you choose to print out your visual and bring it to class, it must be here by TOMORROW. For today, make a sketch of how you want your final print-out to look.)

Bellringer, 8/17 Pick up the Information/Group Assessment Paper (half sheet) Complete the half sheet Information/Group Assessment paper. When you are finished, turn it in and receive your number for presenting the memoir Don’t forget to pick up your folder from the bin when you enter the room. You will place it back at the end of the period.

PRESENTATION OF MEMOIR When your number is called, please show us your memoir visual and explain your six word memoir to us When you are finished presenting, you will give the memoir to Mrs. Hicks

Bellringer, 8/18 After picking up your folders: Pick up a syllabus and Parent signature form off the back table Complete and sign what you can on the syllabus signature form You will be taking both home and bring back the signature form on Monday

Understanding Grades—Formatives and Summatives Both formatives and summatives evaluate how well you have learned something Formatives evaluate each part of the learning Summatives evaluate the entire standard (skill or content knowledge)

Understanding Grades—Stamp Grades I cannot evaluate what you have learned until you receive the knowledge and/or practice the skill; therefore I give stamp grades for engaging in the learning process You will receive a stamp for classwork (such as the Scavenger Hunt)— activities in which you gather information, bellringers, exit slips (tweets) These stamps are worth points toward a formative grade. If you are here and complete all stamp activities, you can earn more than 100 points for that grade It is important that you keep all your stamped papers in your English folder until I collect them for a grade
