From traditional alarm services to new smart technology.

The Old Days Hardwired Systems Restrictive Expensive Compatibility Issues No back up 2010 hardwired system with 1400 pullcords Restrictive, location based No pendants or additional sensors Ugly and created stigma Expensive- electricity and phone Wires hanging in the street No back up for when power went down Wasn’t compatible next generation systems

The Upgrade Invest to save VFM Portable solution Choice and control VFM for organisation (electricity, maintenance etc) Portable solution- people more mobile, active and aware of the digital age Gave customers choice and control- what they could have and at this stage they could opt out

Challenges Refusals Pendants Giving back control Logistics Customer Awareness and understanding Funding Customers that wanted it but refused to pay for their own phone lines Customers needed to wear pendants Customers self testing equipment, independence and took control of their own health and wellbeing Logistically it was a challenge, making sure that all the customers were in at the same time to switch off and install the lifelines Customer and families awareness and understanding of the benefits and cost Sourced funding through SAFFA etc to help most vulnerable customers to have land lines and any other associated costs

Back to the Future Community Alarms Seeing the person not the property Maximising independence Partnership working New Technology Community alarms all have Telecare units which are capable of adding additional sensor as circumstances change All customers have a personalised support plans and needs assessments looking at their whole life not just their telecare needs but also things like finance, social aspects etc seeing the customer as a person not a property Ability to track and monitor customers needs and increase or decrease their support- maximising their independence Working in partnership for smarter working to deliver more outcomes Continually review new technology Assistive Tech professionals forum

Looking Ahead New Responsive Suppliers Portability Early Intervention Digital Inclusion Integrated services Pilots- Tablets New technology My Amego, GPS systems, More personalised assessment using tools such as just checking, Alert It More portability Prevention and early intervention Wifi enabled schemes Digital inclusion Piloting use of tablets on schemes Telehealth systems, integrated services
