World War II Battle in Europe

What does this symbol mean to you?

The Soviet Union demanded another front be opened to fight the Nazis The U.S. first landed in North Africa where we pushed the Germans out. The U.S moved North to Italy and fight against the Italians. Americans at home were finally seeing the brutality of the war. War in Europe

June 6, 1944 Allied forces landed on 5 beaches in Northern France Deadliest day of fighting in world history Allies are now on the European Continent D-Day

Now where do we go? We fight east, pushing the Nazis across France. Our goal: Push the Nazis back to Berlin, Germany General George Patton leads the U.S. towards Germany The German army starts to fall apart. Men leave the army or surrender. Many of these men were forced into the army and did not believe in Hitler’s cause. Now where do we go?

Hitler’s army made one last stand in Bastongne, Belgium in December of 1944. Battle of the Bulge German forces surrounded the U.S. but could not break through The U.S. and Soviet Union cross into Germany at the same time. Soviets get to Berlin first. Germany sees that their time is running short. Hitler kills himself in an underground bunker, April 1945 The Allies take Berlin, ending the war Democracy wins over dictatorship One last fight….
