Tensions Rise What events led to America helping Cuban rebels? The sinking of the USS Maine and the threat to American business interests.

What We Lost, What We Gained What happened to Cuba? They won their independence from Spain. What lands did America gain at the war’s end? Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines.

The Yellow Journalists What is Yellow Journalism? An exaggerated news report. What is the point of exaggerating a news report? To increase readership.

Reasons for the Spanish-American War Protection of American business interests in Cuba (sugar plantations). American support of Cuban rebels to gain independence from Spain.
