Characteristics of an epic poem Hero is a great leader. The setting is broad and includes supernatural realms. The hero does great deeds in battle or undertakes an extraordinary journey or quest. The hero is a figure of great national or even cosmic importance-usually the ideal man of his culture.

Epic Characteristics The action consists of deeds of valor or superhuman courage (especially in battle). It opens in the middle of things. The setting is vast and it covers many nations, the under world and the universe.
