Declarative DECLARATIVE comes from the verb, declare, which means to tell. A DECLARATIVE sentence simply makes a statement. Declarative sentences end with a PERIOD.

Declarative EXAMPLES: Boys are disgusting. Girls are annoying. Teachers are brilliant.

Imperative IMPERATIVE means necessary or required. An IMPERATIVE SENTENCE simply gives a command or makes a request. Imperative sentences end with a PERIOD.

Interrogative INTERROGATIVE comes from the verb, interrogate, which means to question. An INTERROGATIVE sentence simply asks a question. Interrogative sentences end with a question mark.

Interrogative EXAMPLES: Who wants to go? Are you going to eat it? How many will fail the test?

Exclamatory EXCLAMATORY comes from the verb, exclaim, which means to shout or yell. An EXCLAMATORY sentence simply shows excitement or strong feeling. Exclamatory sentences end with an exclamation mark.
