State board of education It is our opinion that when a State Board of Education is appointed, officials are placed in positions for which they are under qualified and lack appropriate experience which compromises the integrity of their decisions as well as allows special interest groups too much access to educational policies and procedures Duties as described in 1001.02

State board of education Required number of board members to complete the State Board of Education is seven 3 seats will be dedicated to board members who are state certified educators/ administrators with a minimum of 7 years of service in the education industry in Florida 4 seats will be dedicated to board members with professional degrees of a Bachelor’s or higher and related experience within the specific areas of study Medicine Engineering Law Finance Social Science such as sociology, political science, history and economics Term of service will be 4 years and not to exceed 8 years of consecutive service.

Commissioner of education Appointed by State Board of Education Required service within the educational industry as an educational administrator Term of service will be four years and not to exceed eight years of consecutive service. Duties as described in 1001.10
