Speech and Language Therapy Team Develop Communication skills; turn taking eye contact Speech and Language Therapy Team We are the Speech and Language Therapy Team working in your child’s school. We work closely with Thomas Bewick School staff to: Develop skills to communicate e.g. use of signing, Communication aids Facilitate understanding of emotions and facial expressions Assess your child’s communication skills Set targets to enable your child to develop their communication skills What the team does Facilitate Social skills Encourage Listening Skills Plan & carry out therapy sessions in or outside of the classroom, with individual children or in groups Provide advice, training & support to school staff Use symbols on boards and books, including PECS Help with eating and drinking problems Help develop effective communication strategies & skills throughout school Provide reports for meetings e.g. Annual Reviews Oro motor sounds and speech work Develop understanding and expressive language Provide advice, training & support for all those working with and supporting your child
