Model Space and Paper Space Sacramento City College Engineering Design Technology Model Space and Paper Space

Model Space/Paper Space Model space is the space where you draw and design in AutoCAD. Model space is the place where most of your work will be performed. Model Space and Paper Space

Model Space and Paper Space

Model Space/Paper Space Paper space is a space you use to lay out a drawing or model to be plotted. Model Space and Paper Space

Model Space and Paper Space

Model Space/Paper Space Look at the tabs along the bottom of the screen to determine if you are in Model Space or Paper Space. Model Space and Paper Space

Model Space/Paper Space Paper Space is like a sheet of paper with “holes” cut in it. Through the holes you can “see” model space. Model Space and Paper Space

Model Space and Paper Space Layouts Layout tabs allow you to create Multiple paper viewport layouts. Example: A size layout C size layout E size layout, etc. A drawing can have multiple layouts. Model Space and Paper Space

Model Space/Paper Space Model space is the space where you draw and design in AutoCAD. Model space is the place where most of your work will be performed. Model Space and Paper Space

Model Space/Paper Space Paper space is a space you use to lay out a drawing or model to be plotted. Model Space and Paper Space

Model Space and Paper Space Layouts Layout tabs allow you to create various paper viewport layouts. A drawing can have multiple layouts. Model Space and Paper Space

Model Space/Paper Space In a Layout, You can cut as many holes as you desire. The holes can be different sizes and shapes. You can arrange the holes to create a final drawing layout by moving and sizing viewports. Model Space and Paper Space

Model Space/Paper Space In Layouts, paper space viewports are handled as objects and can be edited. Moved Copied Re-sized Deleted This allows you to place and plot different views of your work on the same drawing. Model Space and Paper Space

Model Space/Paper Space To create a Layout, pick one of the layout tabs at the bottom of the screen. AutoCAD puts the display in paper space and shows a “sheet of paper” with a “default cut-out” or viewport. Model Space and Paper Space

Model Space and Paper Space The first time you switch to paper space, AutoCAD performs an automatic layout setup. You must select a plotting device. You can pick various plotting options. Model Space and Paper Space

Model Space and Paper Space

Model Space and Paper Space

Model Space/Paper Space You can only plot the currently active viewport from Model Space. Any viewports you create in Model Space disappear in Paper Space. Model Space and Paper Space

Model Space and Paper Space While in a Layout Tab, you can switch between paper space and model space by either Using the Pspace and Mspace commands. OR Clicking on the MODEL / PAPER button at the bottom of the screen. Model Space and Paper Space

Model Space and Paper Space When you are in paper space, AutoCAD displays a UCS icon at the lower left of the screen. “PAPER” is also displayed on the status line at the bottom of the screen. Model Space and Paper Space

Model Space and Paper Space The MVIEW Command Model Space and Paper Space

Model Space and Paper Space Paper Space and MVIEW The MVIEW command is used to create and manage floating viewports in paper space. MVIEW only works in paper space. Model Space and Paper Space

Model Space and Paper Space Paper Space and MVIEW When you switch to paper space you initially see ONE viewport that contains your model space drawing. Model Space and Paper Space

Model Space and Paper Space Paper Space and MVIEW Your drawing will be displayed in this viewport. The drawing is displayed in the last zoom or viewport. Model Space and Paper Space

Model Space and Paper Space

Model Space and Paper Space Paper Space and MVIEW Floating viewports are “holes” cut into the paper. The Model Space can bee “seen” through this “hole” cut in the paper. Model Space and Paper Space

Model Space and Paper Space Paper Space and MVIEW While in a Layout Tab, you can enter Model Space through the viewport, by double-clicking in the viewport. Model Space and Paper Space

Model Space and Paper Space Paper Space and MVIEW The viewports are separate objects. They can overlap and can be moved around. Model Space and Paper Space

Model Space and Paper Space Paper Space and MVIEW After the floating viewports are created, display commands are used to modify the model space “seen” through the viewport. Move Copy Erase Model Space and Paper Space

Creating Floating Viewports The VPORTS Command Model Space and Paper Space

Creating Floating Viewports Creating floating viewports in Paper Space is very similar to creating Tiled Viewports in Model Space. Model Space and Paper Space

Creating Floating Viewports A view port configuration can be selected from the Viewports dialog box. Use the VPORTS command. The MVIEW command can also be used. Model Space and Paper Space

Creating Floating Viewports When Model Space is active, the Viewports dialog box creates tiled viewports. When paper space is active, the Viewports dialog box creates floating viewports. Model Space and Paper Space

Model Space and Paper Space

Model Space and Paper Space

Creating Floating Viewports Use Spacing to set the space around the edges of the floating viewports. Model Space and Paper Space

The MVIEW Command Options Model Space and Paper Space

Creating Floating Viewports MV, MVIEW or -VPORTS options: ON OFF Fit Hideplot Lock Object Polygonal Model Space and Paper Space

Creating Floating Viewports ON Activates the model space display within a view port. OFF Deactivates a model space display within a view port. Model Space and Paper Space

Creating Floating Viewports Fit Default option. Creates a single rectangular floating viewport that fills the entire printable area on the sheet. The sub options 2, 3, 4 can be used to create multiple viewports. Model Space and Paper Space

Model Space and Paper Space

Model Space and Paper Space

Creating Floating Viewports Hideplot Prevents hidden lines in a 3D model from being plotted. Model Space and Paper Space

Creating Floating Viewports Lock Locks the view in one or more viewports. When a viewport is locked, objects in the view port can be edited and new objects added but: Display commands like Zoom and Pan are disabled. Model Space and Paper Space

Creating Floating Viewports Object Use to change a closed object drawn in paper space into a floating viewport. Existing Circles Ellipses Polygons and other closed shapes can be used as floating viewport outlines. Model Space and Paper Space

Creating Floating Viewports Polygonal Draw a floating viewport outline using a polyline. Any shape can be used. Model Space and Paper Space

Creating Floating Viewports Draw the shape in paper space using the POLYGON command. Use MVIEW command Select Object sub-menu option to make the object a viewport. Model Space and Paper Space

Model Space and Paper Space

Model Space and Paper Space Zoom to Paper Space Model Space and Paper Space

Model Space and Paper Space Zoom To Paper Space Zoom Scale has two options: nX And nXP nX scales the display relative to the current display Model Space and Paper Space

Model Space and Paper Space Zoom To Paper Space nXP Scales the drawing in Model Space relative to Paper Space. Is used primarily in the layout of scaled multivew drawings. THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ZOOM COMMAND YOU WILL LEARN ! Model Space and Paper Space

Creating New Paper Space Layouts Model Space and Paper Space

New Paper Space Layouts Create New Paper Space layouts by right-clicking the Layout Tab at the bottom of the screen. Select “New Layout”. Model Space and Paper Space
