MBD @ Festo Current Future 3D Model 2D Drawing Comments 3D Model All relevant information are on the drawing Drawing is still the leading document in most processes Future 3D Model No 2D Drawing Comments No 2D drawing any more All relevant information are in the 3D model: Dimensions, tolerances, geometric tolerances, annotations, views, cross sections and identification IDs for the inspection planning 3D model is leading document in: CAD / CAM process Inspection planning Shop floor management Tool design 3D data exchange with suppliers

MBD @ Festo CAD / CAM process Current situation Disadvantage Open questions Development departments create 3D models and 2D drawings NC programmer creates new CAM 3D model very often (Doesn’t need the 2D drawing) Double work of 3D modeling Misunderstandings and mistakes in the new CAM 3D model CAM 3D model is different to the original 3D model Still conflicts with design intent / production engineering intent Still conflicts with switching to middle tolerances (Small model surfaces run into geometry conflicts) Write permission in Windchill Example design intent / production engineering intent Design Intent Production Engineering Intent Festo needs an answer from PTC regarding the complete CAD / CAM process

MBD @ Festo Inspection planning Current situation Disadvantage Open questions Development departments create 3D models and 2D drawings Inspection planning copies the 2D drawing, and stamps the drawing manually Step model from the 3D model loaded into 3D inspection software CALYPSO No association between 2D drawing and copied 2D inspection drawing No identification IDs for the inspection planning in the 3D model No possibility to import the original 3D model into 3D inspection software CALYPSO Still now closed 3D process in the inspection planning Write permission in Windchill Festo needs an answer from PTC regarding the complete 3D inspection process

MBD @ Festo Shop Floor Management Current situation Disadvantage Open questions Development departments create 3D models and 2D drawings In the factory- and assembly departments are still 2D drawings the leading document How can the shop floor management be improved with MBD? ADVU compact cylinder ADVU assemble station Festo needs an answer from PTC regarding the shop floor management

MBD @ Festo Tool Design Current situation Disadvantage Open questions First tests with Creo Parametric 2.0 and 3D annotations (ASM/PRT) Planned – all engineering workplaces will have an screen and Creo View Process not adaptive to overall Festo Closed unit 3D data exchange to supplier without Creo (temporarily solved with color codes) Festo needs an answer from PTC regarding the tool design process

MBD @ Festo 3D data exchange with suppliers Current situation Disadvantage Open questions Supplies without Creo Parametric get a STEP file Except the geometry all information from the 3D model are gone: Dimensions, tolerances, geometric tolerances, annotations, views, cross sections and identification IDs for the inspection planning Festo needs an answer from PTC regarding the 3D data exchange with suppliers
