Georgian Trade Unions Confederation (GTUC) The Georgian Trade Unions Confederation gathers 26 professional and two regional unions of Adjaria and Abkhazia (Currently Abkhazian Trade Union is in exile and locates in Tbilisi). The GTUC has 280 000 members, among which 56 percent is women and the rest is men. Trainings are always very important for the GTUC, as many old members from professional trade unions are in need of new skill and knowledge. We stream to explore young people from our member organizations and give them proper trainings in order to learn them strong leadership.

Georgian Trade Unions Confederation One of the main goal of the Georgian Trade Union confederation’ s activity is the informational and methodic assistance for the members of the organization, the preparation and training all the trade union’s staff and to share the main experience among them in additional training.

Georgian Trade Unions Confederation Georgian Trade Union’s Confederation paid its special attention to the staffs training and additional training for 2008 year. 2384 union members had been taken part in additional training of studying the Trade Unions activity. 2506 union member where given the additional training by the member organization of the confederation.

Georgian Trade Unions Confederation Vice president of GTUC is responsible for training programs and annually spends about 10 000 gel from the budget of GTUC. Vice president also provides selection of future trainer. and exactly as a result of one of such selections I became a lawyer of GTUC and also I am a trainer of labor issues.

Government has ignored social dialogue with social partners. Georgian Trade Unions Confederation 2006 Georgian Labour code, was prepared without prior consultation with trade unions; Government has ignored social dialogue with social partners. GTUC have been involved in consultations only during parliamentary discussion of draft code.

. Georgian Trade Unions Confederation Article 2. “Prohibition of Discrimination”. general restriction of employment discrimination. Insufficient protection against trade union discrimination. Article 2 is not enough legal mechanism to guarantee trade unionists’ right to be protected from anti-union discrimination

Article 37 point “d” and article 38 Mentioned article constitutes employers’ right to terminate employment contract without notice, for any reason or for no reason. This article entitles the employer with the unlimited right to terminate labor contract without any whatsoever explanations to the employee. Article 37 “d” contradicts Article 4 (3) of European Social Charter, that guarantees the right of all employees to a reasonable period of notice for termination of employment; 2008 ILO Committee of Experts on the Application of Conventions and Recommendations noted that new Labor Code prohibited, in very general terms, anti-union discrimination, did not appear to constitute sufficient protection against anti-union discrimination: at the time of recruitment of workers; and at the time of termination of their employment.

dismissals and harassment of trade union activists In all cases court reject application on ILO Conventions 98, 87 and Law on Trade Unions GTUC has challenged article 37 point “d” in Constitutional Court of Georgia GTUC sent an appeal to the ILO as the Georgia court ignored the Conventions 98, 87 and Law on Trade Unions
