Spiritual, But Not Religious? There is a growing attitude in the world that rejects “religion.” They consider “religion” hypocrisy. Unloving and judgmental. Or, unnecessary. …But considers that people can be “spiritual” without being religious.

Spiritual, But Not Religious? This attitude depends on how we define two things… “Religion” and “Spiritual” “Religion” is seen in a purely negative light. There is pure religion (Jas. 1:27). Self-imposed religion (Col. 2:20-23).

Spiritual, But Not Religious? What is it to be “spiritual”? “God is Spirit” (John 4:21-24). We are made in His image (Gen. 1:27; Heb. 12:9). To be “spiritual” in a biblical sense is to focus on the things God reveals to us (Rom. 8:5; 1 Cor. 2:11-13).

Spiritual, But Not Religious? Worldly definition of “spiritual.” A musician asked if he was religious said he was a “spiritual” person. He said he believed in the “spirit of positive energy.” He said that in a “karmic sense” we should “all spread as much positive energy as possible.”

Spiritual, But Not Religious? Is one “spiritual” if he has “the spirit of positive energy”? What constitutes “positive energy”? Something politically correct?—This changes constantly. Something that feels good?—Feelings can often be selfish.

Spiritual, But Not Religious? Is one “spiritual” if he has “the spirit of positive energy”? Husband or wife leaves for another person may feel good to the one leaving but pain to a mate. One who steals from another reaps a “positive” gain at the loss of another. Bible (Rom. 7:2-3; Lev. 19:11-13 ).

Spiritual, But Not Religious? This view sets a very subjective definition of spirituality. Spiritual without God. No right no wrong. No absolute truth. Dangers (Ezek. 13:3; Prov. 14:12; Jer. 10:23)—”self-imposed.”

Spiritual, But Not Religious? Are you a spiritual person? How to you mean that? As the world defines it? As the Bible defines it? We urge you to choose to set your minds on the things God reveals by His Spirit in His word.
