STP A creative project that “demonstrates your ability to prepare, design, implement, assess and reflect upon the teaching of composing, improvising or arranging in your internship setting” Should include documentation and commentary on at least three consecutive lessons with a group of students that includes three areas Performing Creating Assessing Your STP will be presented on your website in 4 Sections Preparing and Planning for Instruction Implementing Instruction Assessing Student Learning Reflecting on Teaching and Learning
Types of Information Included Documentation statement of philosophical beliefs about music education lesson descriptions student work and videotaped classroom activities Commentaries brief written analytical and reflective responses to specific prompts
Preparing and Planning for Instruction Tasks Select a class or group to teach for your STP project Complete Portfolio Class Profile Form (STP guidelines, pg. 8) Write an introduction to for your portfolio (STP guidelines, pg. 9) Lesson Information Form (STP guidelines, pg. 10) 1 for each of the three lessons Include a copy of repertoire or materials used if applicable If you prefer to write your lesson information in a narrative format, this is okay provided you include on the information on the form Individual Lesson Analyses Follow prompts on STP guidelines, pgs. 7-8 after each lesson is taught
Implementing Instruction (STP guidelines, pg. 11-15) Tasks Video recording of the three lessons How you decide to balance the Processes (i.e. Creating, Performing, and Assessing) across the video segment(s) depends on your instructional goals for the series of lessons Video should be no longer than 10-12 minutes of video TOTAL for the three lessons Video should include active instruction and musical modeling by you as well as student actions. Assessing Student Learning Tasks Document Student Learning Samples of student work (images, scanned documents, video/audio recordings, drawings, other examples as appropriate) Remove student names/identifying information Samples should include YOUR feedback to the student Provide Assessment Instruments Rubric, rating scale, test/quiz, checklist etc used in during the project Assessment Commentary See STP guidelines, pgs. 16-17 for prompts
