Getting to Know You with Wordles! By TEACHERS UNLEASHED

Wordles are visual poetry that can be used for all sorts of things! Today we’ll be learning more about each other, and designing some fabulous art at the same time.

Let’s look at some examples of wordles done on the computer!

What a cool way to learn more about each other!

Let’s begin by answering a few questions about ourselves. On a sheet of paper, number 1 through 10. Make sure you skip a line to give yourself enough room to write. Single words and short phrases are fine.

One last reminder… Get your thoughts down quickly. Once we’re finished answering questions, we can choose better words. We’ll change our overused words like nice, brown, or play to more vivid ones like lovely, chocolate colored, or frolic.

Just in case you missed one of the questions. What is your name? Who is someone that you admire? Name 4 things you cannot live without. What is your favorite book? What do you hope to become in the future? Write down 5 words that describe you. What is your motto? What is your favorite color? What is your favorite animal? Anything you’d like to add about yourself?

Before you begin, make sure you take some time to improve your words Before you begin, make sure you take some time to improve your words. Think about synonyms, or grab a thesaurus to help you! Check your spelling too.

Now it’s time to make your work of art.

Here are some finished examples. You’ll need a pencil and a sheet of copy paper. Use your pencil (lightly) to write your name. Make it big, and place it anywhere on the page. It can go any direction as well. Then, change the direction of your paper as you write down the answers to your questions. Have each sentence or word connect to each other or your name. Vary how you write each. Some can be larger than others, or in another style of writing. When you’re done, use markers or colored pencils to go over your penciled words to make it stunning! Here are some finished examples.
