Features of Living Things Reproduce Grow Develop- change features or shape Need food-(Some are producers- make their food, some are consumers- eat other living things
All living things also: Need Water Exchange gases (oxygen- O2 and carbon dioxide- CO2) Use energy- they release the energy from the food by a process called respiration: burning up food with oxygen Are made of cells Respond to their environment
All living things also are made of certain elements- basic chemicals Oxygen or O2 Carbon or C Hydrogen or H2 plus small amounts of nitrogen (N2), and other elements
What do they mean? Living? NonLiving? Dormant? Organism? Dead?
Terms Organism- a living thing Dormant- alive but in a state of rest (ie trees in winter, seeds, bears hibernating) Organism- a living thing
