AP Physics C Back-to-School Night Mrs. Coyle

AP Physics C Fall: Mechanics Spring: Electricity and Magnetism Introductory differential and integral calculus is used throughout the year.

AP Physics C The course is analogous to two semesters of college level calculus based introductory Physics and prepares the students for the AP exam in May. Students must take both the Mechanics and the Electricity and Magnetism exams.

Mechanics Physics and Measurements (Ch1 ) and Motion in One Dimension (Ch2) Vectors (Ch3) and Motion in Two Dimensions (Ch4) Newton’s Laws (Ch5) and Circular Motion (Ch6) Work, Energy, Power (Ch 7 +8) Momentum (Ch9) Rotation of an Object About a Fixed Axis (Ch10) Angular Momentum (Ch11) and Static Equilibrium and Elasticity (Ch12) Universal Gravitation and Kepler’s Laws (Ch13) Oscillatory Motion (Ch15)

Electricity and Magnetism Electric Field (Ch23) and Gauss’s Law (Ch24) Electric Potential (Ch25) Capacitors and Dielectrics (Ch26) Current and Resistance (Ch27) and Direct Current Circuits (Ch28) Magnetic Fields (Ch29) and Sources of the Magnetic Field( Ch30) Biot-Savart Law Ampere’s Law Gauss’s Law in Magnetism Faraday’s Law of Induction, Lenz’s Law, Maxwell’s Four Equations(Ch31) Inductance (Ch 32)

Grading Marking period grades are based on: Tests 45% Labs 25% Homework and Quizzes 30%

Labs Students perform guided as well as open-ended hands- on laboratory investigations including using electronic/computerized sensors. The electronic sensors create the graphs in real-time on the computer screen. Students also use Excel and Graphical Analysis to create and analyze graphs.
