Shelton School District Tech Services Update 2011 Tech Continues to Align with the District’s Mission and Goals Customer Service Improvements Advancement in Wireless Coverage and Management Grants Improve Classroom Technology Server Virtualization Efforts Time for Questions I have 5 main points that I am reporting on tonight.
Supporting the District Mission We are continuing to replace tired technology We are enhancing classroom technologies through grants We are supporting online assessments and high stakes testing
Supporting the District Mission We are providing virtualized servers to meet increased demands and reduce costs We have added emergency power to the District’s data center.
Customer Service Improvements: We are on track to have satisfied all outstanding customer service requests We are continuing to implement changes requested from last year’s Tech survey We have selected a group of staff who will be working with us to re-design and implement a simpler service request system We are reviewing options for a call center (help desk) that might work with our reduced staff levels Start the new year with more time to handle requests as they come in (more timely responses)
Wireless Networking Advancements: Implemented a new and updated Wireless Controller Distributed Wireless Access Points across District Replacing existing Wireless Access Points in remaining buildings Added support for newly adopted devices like iPODs Increasing network security, protecting our resources
Grants Improve Classroom Technology TL 21 Grants provide Equipment for classroom technology integration Hands on training with digital technologies Instructional strategies for Tech integration into standards based education Grant lasts for two years

Server Virtualization: Why Virtualize Servers Current hardware has increased computing power Fewer physical servers required Saves cost on hardware Saves cost on electricity to run and cool them Saves cost on operating system s Able to provide increased fault tolerance We are clustering virtual servers that provide failover We are utilizing a high fault tolerant storage server Virtualization a smart use of resources
