(P-505) Improving Informed Consent (IC) to IVF through EngagedMD Multimedia Platform (MP)   73rd Annual American Society for Reproductive Medicine Scientific Congress & Expo October 28th - November 1st, 2017 Kathryn Coyne, Jen Rehbein, Jody Lynee Madeira, Ami S. Jaeger, J. Preston Parry, Georges Sylvestre-Margolis, and Steven R. Lindheim

Background Specific Aim IC within assisted reproductive technology (ART) is unique, as procreative autonomy is intended to create ‘offspring that have no say in the process, while some elements remain similar to “standard” medical procedures Medical practitioners have employed a variety of multimedia patient education and consent tools to improve comprehension More recent randomized studies have linked multimedia interventions to greater patient enjoyment; improved patient knowledge, comprehension, and recall; improved physician-patient relationships; lower anxiety; and faster learning Specific Aim We report the impact of a multimedia platform (MP) on patient and provider feedback related to the IC process

Methods Study Design and Survey Prospective qualitative 17-question survey was distributed to 3654 women from 14 USA IVF centers using Qualtrics via Listserv IVF: n=2777 and OI-IUI: n=877 Questionnaire assessed patient and provider attitudes regarding the use of EngagedMD MP prior fertility treatment with respect to: Patient anxiety, comprehension, and satisfaction Responses scaled from Strongly Disagree (1) to Strongly Agree (5) EngagedMD Multimedia Platform Interface Modules 5-7 minutes in length followed by a brief matching quiz (Figure 1) If a patient selected an incorrect answer, a brief pop-up screen appeared with a correct answer and explanation Statistics Statistical analysis performed using IBM Statistical Package for the Social Sciences database (SPSS version 18.0, SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL) Significance assessed at p <0.05 Figure 1: EngagedMD Multimedia Platform Sample Interface

Results Responses to the EngagedMD Multimedia Platform as supplementation during the IVF IC process were positive, demonstrating a positive increase upon patient expectations of the IC process and ART procedures The EngagedMD platform surpassed comparison to other forms of media, second only to physician consultation Patients felt that EngagedMD increased their comfort during the IC process, increased their preparedness to sign IC documents, as well as increased their ability to communicate with their medical team and educated them further about the risks of the procedures that they were going to undertake in the future

Conclusions Our results with the EngagedMD MP are the first to be reported and demonstrate promise from the patient perspective The EngagedMD MP appears to demonstrate patient-perceived advantages, including objective advantages of ease of use, ability to use the videos at home, and decreased time devoted to the IC process while receiving superior education regarding the IC process
