Holy Text The teachings of the Mahavira is called the Agamas. The text is memorized by Jain monks and nuns. This is because their oath is they are not allowed to write so they had to memorize the book.

Place of worship Jains worship in temples. Almost all Jains temples have images of Tirthankara's. Two of the main Jainism sects elaborately decorate their temples.

Traditions Fasting Pilgrimage Jains are to visit a number of temples during their pilgrimage. One of the most famous holiest site is, Shatrunjaya in Gujarat. It is one of the five holy mountains. These mountains contain many temples. Fasting Fasting is very common in Jainism. Although anyone can fast at any time and any point in the year, the most common is during monsoon season. They fast as a way of penance. It is believed that fasting will cleanse your body and mind. They believe in four types of fasting. Complete Fasting- giving up food and water for a period. Partial Fasting- eating less, but avoiding hunger. Vruti Sankshepa-Limiting what you eat. Rasa Parityaga-Giving up your favorite foods.

Summary Slide In summary the religion of Jainism has many traditions, holidays, and core beliefs. They believe in no gods or goddess. They also believe that everyone and everything has a soul. This soul will last forever. They also follow the three jewels in life. They celebrate many holidays and traditions. Some of these include; Diwali and Paryushana.
