11. Clothed in Immortality 1 Corinthians 15:42-58 p. 1063

“A living Christ” Andrew Murray: Paul: “A dead Christ I must do everything for, a living Christ does everything for me.” Paul: “If Christ is not raised our faith is in vain” (1 Cor 15: 14, 19)

1. Physical Existence Pagans had a distain for the physical world. The body was a prison for the soul. Paul has a positive idea that creation is good. Corinthians: Thought they would not die (now that they were in Christ) No longer acknowledged the reality of death Didn’t value the goodness of the physical world.

2. Hope There is a bigger reality and joy . . . A wonderful existence to come. Our current natural bodies are a seed: Perishable, dishonourable, weak Our spiritual (resurrection) bodies Imperishable, glorious, full of power. This understanding transformed Paul’s life (v 31-32)

This understanding transformed Paul’s life (v 31-32) 2. Hope . . . This understanding transformed Paul’s life (v 31-32) No fear of death, no attachment to this life (Phil 1:21, 23) What about you and me? How can we “colonize earth with the life of Heaven?” When something good is coming . . . think / talk about it. We can’t wait.

3. Transformation There is a big change coming (v 50, 51) Death will be swallowed up in victory! It is an incredible hope to which we are moving. Therefore (v 58) Be steadfast, immovable Always abounding in the work of the Lord Knowing your labour is not in vain.

Living it The resurrection A sure hope It should occupy more of our attention than it does. Let us all be colonizing earth with the life of heaven. “A dead Christ I must do everything for, a living Christ does everything for me.”
