TORNADOES By: Jacob Ritz WHAT IS A TORNADO? A tornado is rotating funnel of air that is very violent. It goes from a thunderstorm to the ground.
Severe Weather. Thunderstorms Small intense systems that can produce strong winds, rain, lightning and thunder. Need 2 conditions –Air near surface needs.

Weather Patterns (57) An air mass is a large body of air that has properties similar to the part of Earth’s surface over which it develops. Six major air.
For clouds to form, air must be lifted Frontal Convectional Orographic.
Weather Patterns Air Mass: A large body of air that has properties similar to the part of Earth’s surface over which it develops. Air masses cover thousands.
Severe Storms. Thunderstorms Occur in warm, moist air masses and along fronts. Sinking rain, cooled air, and strong updrafts of warm air cause strong.
Thunderstorms Rain Strong winds Lightening: forms due to the attraction of opposite electrical charges Thunder.
Large body of air with properties the same as the part of Earth’s surface it formed over. Can cover thousands of kilometers. A change in weather = movement.
 How does the weather system form?  Where does it form?  When (what time of year) does it occur?  What are the effects of it?  Why is it considered.

Tornadoes By Eliran Fain-Zilberg, Nave Dagan and Nevo Ben- Naim

A tornado is a violent, dangerous, rotating column of air that is in contact with both the surface of the earth and a cumulonimbus cloud or, in rare cases, the base of a cumulus cloud.

Tornadoes are very strong winds that turn around and around and can travel up to 400 kilometers an hour. They can move trees, cars , houses…

The strongest and most dangerous tornadoes happen in the U. S. A The strongest and most dangerous tornadoes happen in the U.S.A. Tornadoes are also called cyclones and twisters.

Some facts about tornadoes Did you know? Some facts about tornadoes

Fact 1 The causes of tornadoes are: • Moisture in the lower to mid-levels of the atmosphere. • Unstable air. That is, air that will continue rising once it begins rising from near the ground.

• A lifting force. Something is needed to cause the air to begin rising. The most common lifting force is heating of air near the ground. As the air warms, it becomes lighter and begins rising. Advancing masses of cool air, which force warm air upward, also trigger thunderstorms.

Fact 2 The signs of tornadoes are: thunders in the sky, storms…

Fact 3 Tornado can bring much damage: death of many people, destruction of houses, cars, trees, etc…

Fact 4 Most tornadoes in the United States occur in "Tornado Alley", an area including the states of Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and Iowa.
