Bullying Reporting/Investigating Student Support Services 9/14/2017

Law Requirements A procedure for reporting the act of bullying For School Sites: A procedure for reporting the act of bullying A procedure for the prompt investigation of reports of bullying A process for discussing the policy with students and training school employees Collection of data attached to the bully AND the victim 2-2-10 Law Requirements

Employees have 2 days to report to administration any instance of bullying of which the individual had first hand knowledge of witnessing the incident. “ 2 - 2 - 10 ” Administration has 2 days to initiate the investigation/ respond to the incident. Administration has 10 days to provide a documented resolution (may go beyond 10 if “good cause exists”).

2 All staff members are required to report bullying in SIS as a Discipline Referral Staff should err on the side of caution and make a referral if they SUSPECT bullying Any form of harassment or intimidation should be considered as a potential bullying incident Referral

2 Within two days of the referral, the administrator should create a Discipline INCIDENT in SIS and begin an investigation The investigation begins by having the reporter complete the Bullying Incident Report Form The Bullying Incident Report Form should be attached to the Discipline Incident in SIS Discipline Incident

10 Inform the parents of the bullied student that you will conduct an investigation and follow up with the parent. Privately and separately interview the student experiencing bullying. If appropriate, provide assistance and support during the victim interview. Ensure immediate safety measures are in place for the victim. Interview witnesses. Take written statements on the Bullying Report Form. Inform the staff of the bullying allegation. Privately and separately, interview the accused. Inform the accused that retaliation is prohibited and consequences will be administered if reprisal is attempted. Investigation (this information is included in the Bullying Reporting Investigation Guidance document)

Use the Antibullying & Harassment Clarity Sheet to determine the proper coding Coding/Definitions

Data submission/Discipline Event IF a determination is made that the Incident meets the criteria of Bullying, a Discipline EVENT must be created in SIS All Bullying Codes reported in SIS will be verified as having a Discipline EVENT The Discipline Event MUST include the Victim, in addition to the bully Data submission/Discipline Event

Refer to the Student Code of Conduct for guidance on appropriate responses (this is not a limited list of interventions) Responses
