Longitude & Latitude Grid Maps

Global Address Everywhere on earth has a global address! A global address is written using two numbers called COORDINATES!

Grid Mapping Instead of a political map, global addresses are shown on a GRID MAP – horizontal and vertical lines on a map.

The International Date Line (North/South) The Equator (East/West) The Prime Meridian (North/South) The International Date Line (North/South)

Latitude Latitude lines run EAST to WEST! Latitude lines are horizontal. Latitude lines are parallel to the Equator. The highest latitude possible is 90 ° (the poles)

Longitude Longitude lines run NORTH to SOUTH! Longitude lines are vertical lines! Longitude lines are parallel to the prime meridian! The highest longitude possible is 180 ° (The international date line)

How to Write a Global Address 42° N, 88° W Latitude is listed first Longitude is listed last
