You Are Who You Associate With 1 Corinthians 10:1-22
History is a lesson in humility. Our fathers were greatly blessed by God. They were warned against idolatry. They were warned against immorality. They were warned against testing God. They were warned against complaining.
Be like Joseph and Moses. Temptation is never irresistible. They should aim to avoid whatever could be idolatrous. They should be sensitive to associations.
Paul explains his position. He reiterates that food is food. But, sacrifice is participation. They cannot participate with demons and God.
What does that mean to us?
1 Corinthians 10:21 “You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons.”
We need to learn from others’ mistakes. Blessing does not guarantee my obedience. Don’t put things before God! Don’t put pleasure before God! Don’t test God’s patience! Stop complaining!
Run far and fast! I can win against temptation. Completely avoid the appearance of evil. Be careful what you associate with.
Don’t misunderstand. This is not legalism! O, be careful little feet where you go. God does not tolerate associating with evil.
