Then, they migrate and spend their adult lives in the Pacific Ocean, picking up nutrients from the marine ecosystem. Salmon return to their birthplace to reproduce. During this time, wolves, bears, and other organisms feed on the salmon. They move the salmon from the streambeds far into the forest. When the remains of the salmon decay in the forest, nutrients from their bodies, such as nitrogen, enter the soil.
