Sculptural cup

Assignment: Create a cup with sculptural element(s) What is a sculptural element? the art of carving, modeling, welding, or otherwise producing figurative or abstract works of art in three dimensions, as in relief or in the round

Relief vs. In-the-round

Assignment: Sculptural elements can be the form of the cup, the handle, additive or subtractive pieces or a combination of any/all of these Sculptural elements do not have to be figurative (like a human, or animal). They can be abstract or design-oriented Overall design and “character” of the piece are important! Be creative with how you design the form of the cup and the sculptural elements

Cup Form Cup must have a handle. Make sure it is big enough someone could drink from it Create cup any way you would like – thrown, slab, formed, pinch pot Move away from straight cylinder if possible unless that form is part of your design

Handle element Cup must have a handle. The handle can be one of (or the) sculptural element Cup and handle should be related by form and/or concept Proportion and weight should be planned and the handle should compliment the cup (not detract from it)

Handle proportion (incorrect)

Handle proportion (correct)
