IABP Annual Meeting, Toulouse Overview Goals Past 2007 deployments Expected deployments in 2008. IPY partnership June 16-18, 2008 IABP Annual Meeting, Toulouse

IABP Annual Meeting, Toulouse Goals Obtain real-time drift information to supplement radar (or visual) imagery used to created daily ice charts. Monitor regional and local ice motion Provides history of ice motion; helps supplement various imagery sources used for daily and weekly ice charts. Provides MSLP information for CMC / Ed. Partner with other science work. Verify drift model (Sea ice and Iceberg). June 16-18, 2008 IABP Annual Meeting, Toulouse

IABP Annual Meeting, Toulouse 2007 deployments 1 Calib for CHC (north of Resolute). 2 Calibs in Nares Strait 1 died after ~ 2 months 1 still moving! 1 Calib on the ice island (Ayles shelf) Died during summer months (water puddle) Split into 2 pieces in Sverdrup channel. Re-started to beep in Sept after freeze up. June 16-18, 2008 IABP Annual Meeting, Toulouse

IABP Annual Meeting, Toulouse 2008 deployments 1 Calib on the 2nd piece of the Ayles island Not expected to move until early August. Might loose 1st piece again through summer months. Should even consider identical problem with 2nd piece. 2 Calibs for CHC tracking old ice with embedded temperature chain (1 failed). 3 Calibs for Amundsen (IPY)…to be deployed in M’Clure Strait; CGDT did go up to M’Clure but deployed non-CIS buoys. 4-6 Calibs for validating new ice drift model in Lancaster Sound… won’t happen due to NRI permission. CIS provided funding for 2 ICEX buoys for White Trident project. June 16-18, 2008 IABP Annual Meeting, Toulouse
