Ideas???? Characterization Archetypes Symbolism Diction Figurative Language Syntax Theme I don’t care as long as it is NOT about the plot.

Write your own writing prompts Example: How does the author use the elements of archetypes to develop the novel’s purpose? When you finish, post your prompt on the discussion board on Canvas. Read through other student posts as well. If you see one that sounds particularly good, “like” it.

Thesis???? Example: Margaret Atwood’s use of archetypal elements and symbols help define the boundaries between good and evil. It is through these archetypes that the author is able to warn society about the dangers of a theocratic government.

SOAPS Introduction Example: Margaret Atwood’s novel, The Handmaid’s Tale, is a dystopian narrative set in a future where the United States’ government is controlled by a totalitarian religious sect. In this world, the citizen’s lives are strictly monitored and any infringement upon the new laws are met with extreme punishment or death. In particular, women in the novel are reduced to servitude whose sole purpose is to repopulate the country after a pandemic of an unexplained disease prevents most women from being able to have children. Throughout the novel, the lines between right and wrong are blurred by individuals and the church-state alike. However, Margaret Atwood’s use of archetypal elements and symbols help define the boundaries between good and evil. It is through these archetypes that the author is able to warn society about the dangers of a theocratic government where religion can be used to strip the rights of the individual.

Remember the Night Essay Stick to topic as defined in your thesis Use a SOAPS intro Use topic sentences that relate to thesis Embed and cite quotes from text to support your assertions Explain (analyze) your examples in relation to proving your point made in the thesis Use a reflective conclusion
