What are the Articles of Confederation? Document that originally governed the U.S.

Who is Baron de Montesquieu? Enlightenment philosopher who believed government's power should be limited and divided.

What powers did the AOC give the national government? Power to declare war Power to make treaties Power to make a post office Power to make laws Make standards of weights and measures Create a budget Borrow money

What powers did the AoC give to the States? All powers not directly given to the national government

What is the constitution? Document that governs the U.S. today.

Who is Daniel Shays? Led uprising in Massachusetts, the uprising highlighted weaknesses in the AoC.

Developed the concept of natural rights. Who is John Locke? Developed the concept of natural rights.

What is the constitution convention? Twelve states attended this meeting to amend the AoC, but then decided to build a new government.

Who is George Washington? General, leader, first president, etc. His participation added prestige to the constitutional convention.

Who is Thomas Jefferson? Developed the concept of unalienable rights. Primary author of the D.O.I.
