The Solar System. The Sun The sun is in the center of the solar system. It is also, the biggest object in the solar system. The sun is one of the many,
 Mercury is the planet nearest to the sun.  Mercury is a little bit larger than the Earth’s moon.  It has no atmosphere (means almost no air) 

NEPTUNE Emma Kurtz Mrs.Lower May 23, 2012

Characteristics and History was found in 1846 by scientists and astronomers Has a thick atmosphere of hydrogen, helium, and methane Blue color from methane So far away from the sun it is very cold

Characteristics and History The temperature is -200 degrees Celsius Fourth largest planet in the solar system Fifty-eight Earths could fit inside it The furthest planet in the solar system For one revolution it takes 165 years

Fun Facts and Geography Largest moon,Triton, has volcanoes that shoot out dust Triton is bigger than Pluto Pure blue with clouds around the surface Storms the size of Earth Winds can reach up to 1,000 mph- seven times faster than storms on Earth

Fun Facts and Geography Had a Great Dark Spot found in 1989, but then disappeared Six small, thin, rings Neptune is so bright, scientists had to block it out to see its rings

Moons, Satellites, Triton Has 13 moons Largest moon is Triton Triton is icy, rocky, and very cold Triton is the coldest object in our solar system

Moons, Satellites, Triton Triton was discovered soon after Neptune was discovered Triton is red, brown, blue, and green, with pink ice caps

Sources www.kidsastronomy.com/ The book: Uranus, Neptune, and all the other Dwarf Planets

Reflection Neptune was very fun to research! Scientists are hoping to make new technology to land on Neptune. I will continue to research Neptune soon!!!

QUESTIONS Will scientists land on Neptune? Can the scientists find more information? When will astronauts land on Neptune?
